MCP server

Make reels from the agent you already use

Hook Studio is an MCP server. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or Codex, and your agent gets the same tools and realism rules as the Hook Studio chat. Your agent does the talking, so chat costs nothing. You pay only for the media it makes.

Server URL

https://api.hookstudio.ai/mcp

How it works

  1. 1

    Add the URL

    Add the server URL to your agent's MCP or connector settings.

  2. 2

    Sign in and allow

    Your agent opens Hook Studio in your browser. Sign in and click Allow. There is no API key to copy.

  3. 3

    Ask for a reel

    Tell your agent what you sell. It casts, plans the shots, makes the stills, and renders the reel. Every session also shows in the Hook Studio app.

Set up your agent

The first time your agent connects, it asks you to sign in to Hook Studio.

Claude Code

  1. Run this in your terminal.
  2. In Claude Code, type /mcp, pick hookstudio, and sign in.
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user \
  hookstudio https://api.hookstudio.ai/mcp

Claude (web and desktop)

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors, then Add, then Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Hook Studio, paste the server URL, and click Continue.
  3. Sign in to Hook Studio and click Allow. The free plan allows one custom connector.

ChatGPT

  1. Add a custom MCP server with the server URL, and choose OAuth sign-in.
  2. Sign in to Hook Studio and click Allow. Custom servers depend on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.

Cursor

  1. Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or to .cursor/mcp.json in a project.
  2. Cursor opens a browser sign-in the first time it connects.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "hookstudio": {
      "url": "https://api.hookstudio.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Codex

  1. Add this to ~/.codex/config.toml.
  2. Run codex mcp login hookstudio and sign in.
[mcp_servers.hookstudio]
url = "https://api.hookstudio.ai/mcp"

VS Code

  1. Add this to .vscode/mcp.json, or run MCP: Add Server and choose HTTP.
  2. VS Code opens a browser sign-in the first time it connects.
{
  "servers": {
    "hookstudio": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.hookstudio.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}

What your agent can do

The MCP tools are the studio's own tools, so each studio update reaches your agent on the same day.

  • Start a reel in organic or commercial style
  • Cast an avatar, or reuse one you saved
  • Make and edit stills, with the studio's realism check
  • Make video clips, lip-syncs, and recasts once you approve the price
  • Import a TikTok or Instagram video from a link
  • Apply a saved brand: name, offer, voice, and colors
  • Render the final reel and export it

A clip, a lip-sync, or a recast waits for approval. Your agent is told to ask you before it approves one.

Pay for media, not chat

Over MCP, your agent's own model does the chat, so Hook Studio charges no chat credits. Stills, clips, renders, and other media cost the same credits as in the studio. Plans start at $20 a month, or top up from $5.

Frequently asked questions

What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an AI agent use outside tools. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, and VS Code support it. The Hook Studio MCP server gives your agent the tools of the reel studio.
Do I need an API key?
No. The first time your agent connects, it opens a Hook Studio sign-in page. You sign in and click Allow, and your agent gets its own access.
Is it cheaper than the Hook Studio chat?
Yes. In the app, the studio's chat agent uses credits. Over MCP, your own agent does the chat, so you pay only for the media.
Can my agent spend my credits?
Yes, on the media it makes, at the same prices as the studio. Every session and file it makes shows in your Hook Studio account.
Which agents work?
Any MCP client that connects to remote servers with OAuth sign-in. That includes Claude Code, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, and VS Code.
