How to monetize Facebook in 2026: requirements, programs, and what happens in Mexico
Which Meta programs pay today, what each one asks for, and why all of them start in the same place: original reels, posted consistently.

Search for how to monetize Facebook and most guides repeat requirements from years ago. Meta changed the system: the main program is now a single one, and it works by invitation.
Hook Studio is an AI reel maker for creators who want to post original reels often without filming every day. This guide separates what Meta publishes on its official pages from what we could not confirm, as of October 26, 2026.
The short version
To monetize Facebook, the main program is Content Monetization: it is invite-only, and you ask to join from the Monetization tab of your Professional Dashboard. Stars (500 followers for 30 days) and Subscriptions (10,000 followers or 250 return viewers, plus recent activity) also exist. Meta requires original content: reposting other people's videos can cost you monetization. None of this guarantees income.
How to monetize Facebook: the programs that exist
There are four Facebook programs for earning from your videos that I could verify on Meta's pages: Content Monetization, Stars, Subscriptions, and Creator Fast Track. The main one is Content Monetization, and it is invite-only. Here is what Meta's official pages say as of October 26, 2026.
Content Monetization (the main program)
Facebook Content Monetization merges three older programs into one: in-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and the Performance bonus. It pays for Reels, longer videos, photos, and text posts based on how they perform, not a fixed rate per view. Meta announced it in October 2024 (Meta announcement).
Meta calls it "invite-only" and has not opened it to everyone. There is no application button: you fill in an interest form and wait for an invite. You find it in the Professional Dashboard of the Facebook app, under the Monetization tab, then Content Monetization. Invites arrive in the app, by email, in Meta Business Suite, or in the Professional Dashboard. The form is also on the program's official page.
Meta does not publish a follower number for this program. The 10,000 followers and 600,000 minutes that many guides repeat come from in-stream ads as Meta described them in 2021, before the merger. Do not treat them as current requirements.
Stars, Subscriptions, and Fast Track
Facebook Stars are a virtual gift: fans send them on Reels, photos, text posts, Stories, and Live, and Meta pays you 1 US cent per Star (Stars page). Subscriptions are monthly payments from followers in exchange for subscriber-only content (Subscriptions page). Creator Fast Track is a guaranteed payment for three months for creators who already have an audience on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube and are new to Facebook (Fast Track page).
Facebook Content Monetization requirements (October 2026)
Requirements change by program, and they all share a base: follow Meta's policies and live in a country where the program is available. This table collects what Meta publishes on its official pages.
| Program | Requirements Meta publishes | Mexico and LATAM |
|---|---|---|
| Content Monetization | Invite-only. Follow the Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies, post original content, be 18 or older, and have ads enabled on your content. No follower number published. | The pages I could read show no country list. In 2024 Meta invited creators in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, and Spain to the Performance bonus, one of the three programs that were merged. |
| Stars | 500 followers for at least 30 consecutive days, follow the Community Standards and monetization policies, live in a country where Stars is available, accept the terms. | Check the country list in Meta's Help Center. Your Professional Dashboard tells you whether you qualify. |
| Subscriptions | 10,000 followers or 250+ return viewers, and in the last 60 days 50,000 post engagements or 180,000 minutes watched. A Page not already using a monetization product passes a review first. | Mexico is on the country list. Outside the list, invite-only. |
| Creator Fast Track | 20,000 followers and 30,000 video views in 60 days on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube. Facebook account over 30 days old, age 18+, no Facebook reel in the past 6 months. | Only for people living in the US, Canada, UK, or Australia. Not available in Mexico. |
Two details few guides mention. First, personal profiles cannot monetize: you need a Page or a profile in professional mode. Second, the minimum payout for Content Monetization is $25 for US residents and $100 for everyone else; a balance below that rolls over to the next month (program terms).
What I could not confirm
- The current country list for Content Monetization. Meta keeps it in its Help Center and it changes. Check your Professional Dashboard before counting on it.
- Whether in-stream ads still exist separately. Meta said it was moving creators to the new model gradually. I found no end date.
- How much Facebook pays per thousand views or per Reel. Meta does not publish a rate. The figures going around come from creator reports, not Meta, so they are not here.
How to get paid on Facebook Reels: they have to be original
To get paid on Facebook Reels, they have to be yours. Reposting other people's videos breaks Meta's originality rules and can cost you monetization. It is the rule creators overlook most.
Meta defines original content as content filmed or produced directly by the owner of the Profile or Page. In July 2025 it announced that accounts that repeatedly reuse other people's content lose access to monetization programs for a period and get less distribution. In March 2026 it sharpened the definition (Meta post, creator guide).
What Meta treats as unoriginal
- Re-uploading posts your Page or Profile did not create.
- Minor edits to another creator's video: borders, captions, or a speed change.
- Reels that only react, watch along, stitch clips together, or narrate existing footage without adding value.
- Watermarks from other apps and content that visibly looks recycled.
Meta says it does not penalize reactions or joining a trend when you add something of your own: new information, analysis, or a better story, with you on screen. If an account mostly posts unoriginal content, Meta can stop recommending it and remove its monetization. You can appeal an originality decision.
The pages I read do not mention AI-generated content, so I cannot tell you how Meta treats it separately. The rule underneath is clear: what you post must be yours, not a copy of someone else's.
The engine behind monetization: original reels, posted often
None of these programs pays you for existing. They pay for original content people watch, so what moves you toward an invite is posting your own reels often. Meta gives no reels-per-week number; the only program that sets one is Fast Track, with 15 reels a month on 10 separate days, and only for the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia.
Where Hook Studio fits
Hook Studio is an AI reel maker for creators and businesses who want to post original reels in volume without filming every day. You chat with the agent, and it builds a vertical 9:16 reel of about 15 to 20 seconds from your photos, your face or an avatar, on-screen text, and an end card. The first 5 seconds are AI video and the rest is text and screens, which cost a few credits.
| Piece | Credits |
|---|---|
| Starting still (image) | 11 |
| 5 s Kling 3 clip at 1080p, silent | 96 |
| Full 5 s hook (still + clip) | 107 (about $0.93 on the Concept plan) |
| 5 s hook with the clip's own voice | 154 |
| Voice-over line | 5 |
Before anything runs you see the plan and the price of each job, and a failed clip refunds its credits. These prices leave out the automatic realism checks, a few credits each.
The same reel works on three networks
A vertical 9:16 reel works the same on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. You make one and post it on all three. Hook Studio does not post for you yet: you download the bundle and upload it yourself, and direct posting is on the roadmap. Every download comes with a reminder to turn on the AI label, and TikTok and Instagram ask you to label realistic AI content.
One warning, because of the section above: do not use Hook Studio to rebuild someone else's video and post it on Facebook as yours. The recast feature is only for videos you have the right to use: your own, one you bought with a license, or one whose creator gave you written permission. For the costs, read how to recreate a viral video with AI.
What this does not promise
- An invite to the program. Meta decides who gets in, and it does not publish its criteria.
- Income. Neither Meta nor we can tell you what you will earn.
- A shortcut. AI reels still need a good idea and a good hook.
If you want to monetize on other networks
Each network has its own rules. See how to monetize TikTok and how to monetize YouTube. To get your reels in front of more people, read how to grow on Instagram or the AI reel maker page.
Frequently asked questions about monetizing Facebook
How many followers do I need to monetize Facebook?
It depends on the program, and the main one has no published number. Content Monetization is invite-only and Meta gives no follower minimum. Stars needs 500 followers for 30 consecutive days, and Subscriptions needs 10,000 followers or 250+ return viewers, plus 50,000 post engagements or 180,000 minutes watched in 60 days.
Can you monetize Facebook in Mexico?
Partly yes: Mexico is on the country list for Facebook Subscriptions, and in 2024 Meta invited Mexican creators to the Performance bonus. I could not read the current country list for Content Monetization or Stars, so check the Monetization tab of your Professional Dashboard. Creator Fast Track is not available in Mexico.
How much does Facebook pay for reels?
Meta does not publish a rate per view or per reel. Content Monetization pays based on how your original content performs, and the figures going around come from creator reports, not Meta. The only fixed number Meta publishes is that each Star you receive is worth 1 US cent.
How do I turn on monetization on Facebook?
Open the Professional Dashboard of your Page in the Facebook app, go to the Monetization tab, and fill in the Content Monetization interest form. Then wait for the invite, which arrives in the app, by email, or in Meta Business Suite. Before that, make sure you have a Page or a profile in professional mode, post your own content, and follow the monetization policies.
Can I monetize by posting other people's videos?
No, posting other people's videos breaks Meta's originality rules. Accounts that repeatedly reuse other people's content lose access to monetization programs for a period and get less distribution. Reacting or joining a trend is allowed when you add something of your own.
Hook Studio is not affiliated with Meta, Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok. Everything this guide says about their programs comes from Meta's official pages as of October 26, 2026, and may change.
