AI face swap video that swaps the whole person

Hook Studio is an AI reel maker that recasts short videos for creators and brands. Give it a 4 to 15 second video and a photo of who goes in, and it swaps the people and keeps the motion, the camera, the setting, the length, and the original sound. It is not a free face swap app: a 5 second recast costs 579 credits, about $5, and you see the price before anything runs.

Face swap video vs. recast: what stays and what changes

A face swap video pastes a new face onto the original body. A recast generates the video again with your person in it: face, body, hair, and clothes. Everything else comes from the original.

That is why a pasted face often gives itself away at the jaw, the hairline, and the neck: the skin, the hair, and the clothes still belong to someone else. In Hook Studio you give 1 to 8 reference images, in the order the people appear, and the model generates the video again with them.

When to replace a person in a video with AI

Recast when the video already works and the hook is in the motion. You keep what made it work and change who is in it.

  • A video of yours that already worked. Recast it with another person and test the same hook on another audience: another age, another country. No new shoot.
  • UGC you bought. If your agreement with the creator allows it, one paid video becomes several versions with different people, so you can test which one your audience watches.
  • Dances and transitions. When every move lands on a beat, or the hook is an outfit change or a camera spin, a prompt cannot describe it. A recast keeps the timing.
  • Two or more people. An AI character swap for a scene where people react to each other: one reference per person, in the order they appear, up to 8.

When a face swap is the wrong tool

When the hook is the idea and not the motion, skip the face swap and copy the format with a still and a clip: 107 credits for a 5 second hook instead of 579.

Many videos work because of an idea, not a move: a POV line over someone looking at the camera, a day in the life, a before and after. Nobody owns that idea. The agent rebuilds it with your person in a new still and a short clip, in a setting you choose.

The prices below leave out the automatic realism checks, a few credits each. Even so, the gap is 4 to 5 times per hook.

The original audio stays: what to do with it

A recast comes back with the original sound exactly as it was. That fits a dance, where the moves sit on the beat. It is a problem when someone talks, because their voice now comes out of your person's mouth.

  • Music: mute the video (free) and add the same sound from the TikTok or Instagram library when you post.
  • Someone talks: do not post another person's voice as yours. Mute it and record your own voiceover, or make a voice line (5 credits) and lip-sync the recast to it (71 credits for 5 s), so your person says your words.
  • No sound: the recast comes back silent, and you add any audio you want.

The rules: your video, people who agreed, an AI label

Hook Studio recasts only videos you have the right to use, only with people who agreed, and never with a famous person.

  • Rights to the video. Your own video, UGC you bought or licensed, or a video whose creator gave you written permission. A recast keeps the camera, the setting, and the sound, so a stranger's viral video is still largely theirs.
  • Consent. A saved avatar, a still you made in the app, or a photo of a real person who agreed. When you upload a photo of someone, Hook Studio asks once whether you have their consent.
  • No famous people. The agent does not put a celebrity in, even if you have a photo, and a recast is not a way to pose as someone else.
  • An AI label. Every download comes with a reminder to turn on the AI label. As of October 2026, TikTok and Instagram also ask you to label realistic AI-generated video when you post it.

How to make an AI face swap video in Hook Studio

  1. 1

    Bring the video.

Upload a 4 to 15 second video, or paste the link to a TikTok or Instagram post you have the right to use (5 credits to import). If it is longer, the agent trims it to the moment that matters, for free.

  2. 2

    Pick who goes in.

Upload photos of yourself, or use a saved avatar or a still you made in the session. One reference per person, in the order they appear, up to 8.

  3. 3

    Approve the price.

The agent shows the price in credits and waits. Nothing runs until you confirm. The recast comes back at final quality, 720p.

  4. 4

Fix the sound and add the text.

Mute the original for free, add your voiceover, or lip-sync to a voice line. The hook text and the end card go on top in the final render, for a few credits.

  5. 5

    Download and post.

You get the video, the cover, and a caption with hashtags, with the AI label on it. You post it yourself on TikTok or Instagram; direct posting is not available yet.

How much an AI face swap video costs (it is not free)

There is no free video face swap in Hook Studio. A recast is charged per second of the trimmed video, and per second it is the most expensive step in the app. Your first $5 costs $3 and gives you 500 credits: enough for a 4 second recast (464), not for a 5 second one (579). Plans start at $20 a month for 2,300 credits. Add 5 credits if you import a link, a few for the render, and a few for each realism check. A video under 4 seconds is billed as 4.

What the AI face swap does not do

  • Videos longer than 15 seconds. A longer video is trimmed first, and the shortest is 4 seconds.
  • 1080p. A recast comes out at 720p.
  • A new setting. The background, the light, and the props stay. For another place you need a new clip, not a recast.
  • More than 8 people. You give 1 to 8 references, in the order they appear.
  • Famous people. The agent never puts a celebrity in, even if you have a photo.
  • A new voice. The original sound stays, and Hook Studio does not clone voices. Use your own voiceover, or a voice line with lip sync.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put my face in a viral video?
Yes, if you have the right to use that video: upload a photo of yourself and Hook Studio recasts the video with you in it, keeping the motion, the camera, and the sound. A viral video that belongs to someone else needs its creator's written permission first. Without it, copy the format instead: a still of you and a short clip cost 107 credits for a 5 second hook.
Is there a free AI face swap for videos?
Hook Studio's video face swap is not free: a recast costs 464 credits for 4 seconds and 579 for 5, about $4 and $5 on the Concept plan. The cheapest way to try it is the starter offer. Your first $5 costs $3 and gives you 500 credits, enough for one 4 second recast but not a 5 second one. Trimming, muting, and replacing the audio are free.
Does the face swap keep the original audio?
Yes, a recast keeps the original sound exactly as it was. That suits a dance. If someone talks, mute the video for free and add your own voiceover, or make a voice line (5 credits) and lip-sync the recast to it (71 credits for 5 seconds).
Is it legal to face swap someone in a video?
It depends on your country's laws, and on two things you control: the right to use the video and the consent of the person whose face goes in. This is not legal advice; laws on image rights, privacy, and deepfakes differ from country to country. Hook Studio recasts only with people who consented, never with famous people, and labels every export as AI. As of October 2026, TikTok and Instagram also ask you to label realistic AI video.
What is the difference between a face swap and a recast?
A face swap pastes a new face onto the original body, while a recast generates the whole person again: face, body, hair, and clothes. That is why a pasted face can show at the jaw, the hairline, and the neck. In a recast, the motion, the camera, the setting, the length, and the sound still come from the original.
